I ran across this African wood, Berchemia zeyheri, Pink/Red ivory, that I've never seen before. I was wondering if any of you guys have used it before, and any thoughts. It has a pink to a very red hue with a yellow white sap wood.

I've used it several times--its VERY hard and dense--tends to burn when sanded as well--keep your belts fresh. Doesn't darken much at all when wetted. It polishes like ebony, similar properties.. Great for inlays too.

I bought several fretboards from ZOOTMAN. Haven't used them yet...they do look purty...

Billy...the picture you have is of a guitar set of it...who has it? It is hard to find in sizes big enough for a guitar set and I am interested if they have more stock...

Yea! After seeing this stuff, I now believe in love at first sight!! Most of the stuff is small. It's used in pen turnings. Some of it is almost blood red when polished.

Inlays? "af_one" your a genius!!!    Have you bent it? I'd hate to bust up a set of this stuff. It's not toxic either, like, kill me, my cat and half my neighborhood die of heart attack??

Shawn - I believe it's Prosono they deal in specifically African hardwoods. It ain't cheap, but what a looker. I just emailed them and they got right back!

The Zootster gets this stuff too? Huhn?? That guys like... like... SUPERMAN!!

I emailed them. I didn't see prices posted. Must be per quote. They stated the ABW was $700 and the Pink Ivory master grade was $350 I think they screwed up. I forwarded my response to your email Brock.

No, I'm going to use cheap stuff and if it works then pump up the grade. That is.... if I survive

I'm proably going to have to do a lot of configuring.

Never had a problem with the dust--I liked working with it--not lots of kigure, but the color and polish it takes is gorgeous.

Thanks for the source...I have African Blackwood, Pink Ivory and Pallisandre sets on the way (all for classical).

For one of the Pink Ivory Sets I will be using Brazilian Tulipwood as the binding that I got from BobC (Zootman). If you have not seen or used Tulip Rosewood, it is a dalbergia that is one of my favorities.

It is gold with red to pink stripes through it. It is one of the sweetest smelling rosewoods but does not grow very large. It is not a flashy looking wood but is a very pretty, subtle color add for bindings, rosettes and headplates.
